christmas eve and christmas '08

christmas eve, as has become one of our traditions, we went to dinner. we were early enough this year to find more restaurants open than last year. so we ate a delicious dinner at applebee's. (some may think this a lame tradition, but when it's just our little family it seems silly to me to cook christmas eve. there are enough other things going on.) after we got home from dinner we did our usual: wrote our christmas letters (and placed them in our stockings), made cookies for santa, read in the scriptures about the birth of Jesus, then opened 2 family gifts. (usually that involves new pj's for everyone. this year it was a family fued game and a tri-ominoes game)
we are fortunate enough to have kids that sleep in - even on christmas morning. cassie and mason were the first ones up (around 8:30am), then jeremy and rich and i. it took some gentle pushing to get isaac up this year. he just wanted to snuggle with me in my cozy, warm bed. (i was all for that!) after getting them lined up we headed downstairs to see what santa left. after doing santa gifts, we enjoyed our traditional christmas morning breakfast (something i get to prepare the night before, then throw into the oven the morning of). after which we played for a while and almost decided that we just shouldn't open the rest of our gifts under the tree because everyone was very happy with what santa brought. we got spoiled this year by staci (my sister), and becky (rich's sister), and of course enjoyed gifts from one another, as well as grandparents. what a beautiful, relaxing day we had to ourselves. although we miss family, we really do enjoy the peace of christmas and not having to get on the roads on christmas day. we hope you all enjoyed yours as well.
