such a long story.... we decided to go to utah, leaving the day after christmas. so we packed up and were out the door by 7:30am, 12/26. barely 3 hrs into our trip we began having car trouble. only an our past chicago, we decided to backtrack an hour to a mazda dealership. we got there, they "fixed" the car, and we were back to our travels an hour later. (so we only added 3 hrs. to our trip, oh and a $300 bill). just 3 hours farther into our trip we began having the same car troubles- on a sat. afternoon, the day after christmas- in the middle of NOWHERE! we called the dealership (who knows why) and they said there wasn't another dealership within 3 hrs of us, and even if there were, he doubted they'd be open. after getting about 30 min. outside des moines, iowa, we decided to turn around/stop at next hotel. for a variety of reasons we ended up back-tracking about 2 hours to a small "town" that had a small waterpark/hotel. we decided we may as well make it fun for the kids, since we were headed home. not sure what to do, being that it was the weekend, we weren't sure we'd make it home anyway, it was snowy/blizzard-like weather, we stopped and played. rich took the hotel maintenance guy out with him to check out the car. call it divine prompting (we call it that) or whatever, but rich just had a thought to check the battery/connection. sure enough, it was loose - loose enough to cause the exact problems we were having. although not 100% sure he fixed the problem, the next morning we got on the highway heading west, rather than east. so off to utah we went, with no other problems to speak of! kids were great, seth was fantastic- and we arrived in good spirits, in spite of the fact that it took us 3 days to get there.
